Empower Good People to Develop a Strong Brand

By / March 2016

I was very fortunate to have had impressed upon me, both personally and professionally, the importance of treating people well. The life lesson came at an early age from my Dad; the business one early in my career from the late Tom Stemberg, a brilliant marketer whose many accomplishments included founding Staples. Over the years I constantly employed that philosophy in every company I worked for, regardless of location. The principle was always the same. Surround yourself with good people, and then empower them to do their jobs. The result was always developing a strong brand. When people are treated well, and receive good communications, they extend this to the customer. But if employees do not receive this, how can you expect them to ever treat customers properly? Pretty simple. And yet, so often ignored.

Speaking of brilliant marketers, Ted Rubin’s post Empower Your Employees… and They Will Power Your Brand! drives home these very points beautifully. As he notes, it is even more critical today, with all the impact of social and digital. Treat employees with respect. It is not only the right thing to do, but it also is the smart business thing to do.

If you are not familiar with Ted, you should be. Follow him on Twitter or Facebook.
